Dining Room update

i took these pictures FOREVER ago and totally forgot about them! this is how our new dining room is set up currently, though it usually has toys and food on the floor :)

my neighbor totally gave me the old ironing board! i'm very excited about it. i have a friend who used hers as a sofa table, super fun.

aren't camera phones awesome? they are so convenient and its amazing how good of a picture you really can get with your phone. i have realized, though, that ever since i got a smart phone my poor nikon has been sitting on the shelf gathering dust. literally. poor guy. and my poor photography. i have become lazy with my pictures. yes it takes like 3 seconds to walk across the room and pick up my nikon. yes it is big and bulky (compared to my phone). and yes i really do take better pictures with it.

i have decided to not let my camera gather dust any longer!

ps i use gimp to edit my pictures. over at a beautiful mess they are doing a new series of posts about how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements. it is not exactly the same as gimp but similar. i have been enjoying them, and used their latest tip in my photos above. they also have tons and tons of photography tips that are really helpful, also their blog is just lovely. you should check it out.

thankful tuesday's

hey guess what? it's tuesday and i'm actually writing a post!!! crazy.
today i am thankful for our new house. it is the exact same layout as our old house except it's 300 sq feet bigger, has a remodeled kitchen, working fireplace, and beautiful hardwood floors. i am planning on doing a full house tour very soon but i have some projects up my sleeve that i need to finish before i show you all how it looks :)
when the bestie was over she was surprised by how set up we were.... i feel like it took awhile but then we got to counting weeks and realized we've only been in our new space about 2 months. so that made me feel better about my progress:) here's is a tiny tour of our house now.

tiny tour

have you ever noticed a super cool old building and thought "i wish i could just take a quick peak inside"? i think this ALL the time. especially when we are going for walks. we live in one of the oldest neighborhoods in yakima. you can tell that in its heyday it was once a very wealthy and prominent street. it is full of huge old houses and has a grassy median lined with giant trees . it is sad to see all the beautiful houses in such poor shape.
recently our neighbors bought a house down the street and i got a chance to look around and take some pictures! my dream had come true to just take a "tiny tour."  its previous owner was a sweet old lady who would sweep her sidewalk on nice days and say hello to zula when we walked by.

this house is a gem! as you can see, it has alot of things going for it; tall ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors, leaded windows, claw foot tub, radiator heaters (that work!), an awesome porch and back yard.

have you ever had a similar experience, where you got to see/explore something you've always admired?

a quick peak

here's what we've been up to for the last two days. i meant to write this last night so some of my pictures are dated :) but you know how it goes? right?

found a cat/house sitter
read stacks of books
cleaned out the fridge
packed for our trip
packed our house
cleaned actually i've quit cleaning
zula's made messes
planned
not gotten enough sleep
wished i had more coffee
cuddled and read when i should have been cleaning
had lots of coffee
discovered that poop makes me panic
done lots tons of laundry

bedroom blankets

when i recently painted our bedroom, i wanted something light and fresh but neutral enough to match my vintage blanket collection which includes some crazy colors and patterns. here are a couple pictures of different blankets on our bed. i think i was successful and am very happy with the results.

kids room

finally a room for zula that has it all! toy storage, lots of space, changing table, and a tree of birds! my color inspiration was the carpet. i wanted to compliment it and make the pink stand out more. i picked this bad boy up at an estate sale 2 summers ago for 10 bucks!!!!!

 i drug this huge branch home one day and am so glad i did. i have used it in multiple rooms already. but zula loves it here.

 owl, fan, duck and elephant are all estate sale finds. we got the dresser from some friends for cheap and painted it.

 i made the pictures and the "d" and "z" postcards are from our trip to portland.

our tiny suite

it took me all summer, but here it finally is! our "master" bedroom redo.

we decided to switch bedrooms with the kid in preparation of new baby coming. this also gives her more room to play and have toys so they are not all in the living room, even though they usually end up all in the living room. our new "master" is suuuuper tiny. our bed takes up most of the room and we had to get really creative in the closet!
here were some of my goals for this room:

fresh and airy feeling
not too girly but girlier than our previous bedroom
i wanted all of my vintage bedspreads to match, so pretty neutral
slightly industrial


i think i pulled it of :) here are the pictures. i have a couple more small projects i'm planning for the room (new light fixture) but i will fill you in on those once i figure out exactly what i want.
