i have been in a craft-funk. i'm itching to make but can't think of anything. i want to take pictures.... but of what? my kids? again? (jk)

also it's hard to get anything done (let alone be sane), when they dont take a nap.

so this project, from design sponge, was perfect. i actually had almost everything on hand. i was thinking i would have to go buy cedar shavings and then ashley english mentioned in her post that she raises chickens and so always has cedar on hand. oh yeah, i almost forgot, we have chickens (palm to forehead). zula and effi were very helpful at pulling the pine needles off the branches (effi was so into this), dumping everything on the floor (um... also effi), and almost cutting everyone's fingers off (that would be zula).

chicken update

the chicken coop. oh it took forever to finally build but here it is! solid, roomy and perfect for our five hens. well...... four hens and..... a rooster. yep that's right poor cinderella (the crested special) is not a girl but a boy. "she" started crowing a couple weeks ago. we are a little bummed, because she he is so cool looking. but our yard is no place for a rooster, so says the city of yakima. we found him a good home with wide open spaces and plenty of other chicken friends. our hens it seems, dont really know what to do with themselves now that he is gone. zula keeps asking, "where's chickalina."

having chickens has been lots of fun. still no eggs but we are counting down the weeks and dreaming of fresh eggs. zula loves them and spends lots of time feeding and talking to them.

the husby found the chicken coop design online and we spent a grand total of $60 on supplies! thank you restore. everything we read about chickens said to anticipate spending at least a couple hundred on your coop. ha! take that internet.
she still needs a coat of paint.... but i'm kinda indecisive about the color.

chicken update

these girls are loud! i am ready for them to be outside and in their coop. i'm sure they are ready for it as well because they are getting huge!
we have to be careful when we change their food or water because they are always trying to jump out of their little tote. these chicks are smart. i wouldn't doubt they purposefully dump their water dish for a chance to escape. i can see it now, as soon as the lights are out they are plotting escape routes to the wild!
unfortunately aaron is still building and scheming and planning. can't we just throw them in a big crate or something out there?

chicken field trip

five little, lovely hens went on a field trip to explore the outdoors. of course everyone who is anyone was there; buddy (our neighbor's puppy), the extended family (grandma, grandpa and libby), and all the neighborhood cats came to have a look. these ladies got quite a lot of attention, though i'm sure they were not too pleased about this as they are easily sent into a chirping frenzy.  here is tallia, cinderella, chickalina, and molly's big field trip:

ps yes there are five chickens and i named four. i cant for the life of me remember number five's name. i know i'm terrible, libby named them. i will have to ask her.

and yes it is barefoot weather here!
